In the Mirror

I see my mother’s eyes looking back at me.
The weight of sacrifice weighing down her shoulders.
I can’t ignore the anguish written all over her face.
The shame etched on her forehead…
The pain of life’s disappointments
Casts a shadow in her eyes.
A lifetime of hard work stains her hands.
Yet, there is no doubt of courage in her strong back.
Her strength stands tall
Her joy is apparent in her weary smile,
Her delight shines through her squinted eyes.
Her pride oozes from her presence.
I keep looking in the mirror,
and I see my mother’s child.
Indeed, I am my mother’s child
….and the mirror says it all.
