My mind is reminiscing
Of yesteryears before social distancing
Long before the ‘new normal’ came
Before corona announced its hideous name
Covid deaths dig unhealed scars
Tears stream as it claims our stars
Surviving alone is an unfathomable task
As we view life from behind the mask
Our thoughts are free yet… quarantined
Hearts fuelled yet incapacitated, dreams denied
Businesses closed and cowered to the pandemic malaise
The world a dark tunnel, with no sunshine or rays
We are scurrying chickens
Running desperately heedlessly
The manure of our robust drive
Fertilises our sprawling hope
Potent is our crippling strife
As we struggle to cope
