Seated on one of mother nature’s fertile laps
heavy eyelids momentarily shut
burdened shoulders finally resting
young lungs still carrying God’s priceless breath
patiently inhaling, and exhaling
peaceful wind caressing soft eardrums
empty hands enjoying the freedom of the moment
absent sun, but it’s warmth can still be felt
like my father’s love and wisdom,
proactive feet not swiftly moving
prayerful knees grateful for my family
and no words escape from my lips.
This is where I escape to,
in the midst of the war I’m in
that has left my world on fire.
The war continues in my absence
so I’m only here for a moment to reset.
I must now return before I start burning too.
